Simply connect it through USB to your laptop and enable it in whatever application you are using. If you’re using Logic, for example, you can load up a Logic instrument and perform it with your MPK. OR use a conventional 5 pin MIDI connection to link it to a hardware sound/synth sampler/module.

Sample record mode enables you to record your own audio samples via an audio system or audio input on your pc, or by re-sampling your own MPC composition. You may record a turntable, synthesizer/keyboard, bass, guitar or any other signal that your audio interface supports. To record an exterior audio source with MPC Essentials, link your device or source to your audio system or computer’s audio input first.

Please keep in mind that the MPK and MPD MIDI controllers lack audio inputs and do not operate as an audio interface.
